Statistics from the General Administration of Customs indicated that last year, China's liquor imports stood at 83.1 million liters, up 13.73 percent year-on-year, while in value terms it was $1.4 billion, up 24 percent year-on-year.

However, China's liquor exports during the period stood at just 17.2 million liters, up 3.86 percent year-on-year.

During the first seven months of this year, liquor imports continued to surge by another 33.05 percent, to 68.6 million liters.

The average per capita consumption volume of wine in the United States has been more than 10 liters a year, while the number is lower than 1.5 liters in China, Frost & Sullivan found.

In 2017, men on average drank more than 11 liters of alcohol, mostly spirits and beer, while women drank three liters.

On average, Chinese adults drank more than seven liters of alcohol, up by nearly 70 percent from 1990.

Chinese wine imports were 687.5 million liters last year, a year-on-year drop of 8.26 percent for the first time since 2014, according to the Ministry of Commerce website.

Last year, China imported 746 million liters of wine in total, up by 16.88 percent year-on-year.

According to Mexico's Tequila Regulatory Council, 2017 was a record-breaking year that saw the country export more than 213 million liters of the drink to 120 markets across the globe.

According to data from the council, Chinese imports totalled 682,000 liters last year, but the country still lags far behind the largest tequila market of all, the United States.

The total volume of whiskey sold during the period was 16.56 billion liters, up 6.9 percent year-on-year, according to Euromonitor.

Besides, whiskey volumes are foreseen to reach 23.65 billion liters in 2022, expanding 32 percent from this year, Euromonitor said.

In the 2017-18 financial year, the total value of Australian wine exports rose 20 percent to A$2.76 billion ($2.05 billion), while the total volume of wine exported rose 10 percent to 852 million liters, according to data from Wine Australia.

"Last year, China imported 746 million liters of wine in total, growing 16.88 percent year-on-year, doubling the imported volume recorded in 2013.

Last year, China imported 105.78 million liters of Australian wines, jumping 33.27 percent yearon-year, customs data showed.

It can achieve a fuel consumption of 4.2 liters per 100 km.
