ZHENGZHOU — Cotton yarn futures, the first commodity futures contracts launched in China since 2016, have entered trading on the Zhengzhou Commodity Exchange (ZCE) in central China's Henan province Friday.
Fluctuations in cotton yarn prices have a direct impact on the profit and cost of upstream and downstream firms in the textile industry, which is a pillar industry of the national economy.
The new futures contract will help investors mitigate risks of price volatility by obligating them to buy or sell cotton yarn at a predetermined price at a specific time.

Large and frequent fluctuations in cotton yarn prices have had a negative impact on related industries in the past few years, and the launch of the cotton yarn futures will be an answer to market demand, the CSRC said.
The CSRC is accelerating the listing of crude oil futures, and actively preparing for the listing of similar instruments in cotton yarn and paper pulp.
The CSRC is also speeding up preparations to launch crude oil futures, as well as possible futures markets for cotton yarn, pulp, hogs, red dates and apples, Fang said.
