Gong Jianfeng is among thousands of employees who are struggling to maintain a steady paycheck, as the restaurant he works for was temporarily closed due to the outbreak of COVID-19.

"As we are engaged in the artificial intelligence and agriculture sectors, some of our employees could not obtain US visas recently," said Gong.
Xag, one of the leading manufacturers of unmanned aerial systems and agricultural solution providers, has already made most of its patents international ones, by registering them in the Netherlands, Switzerland, Germany and even the US, according to Gong.
So we are not concerned too much about the international market expansion in the near future," said Gong.
Gong also suggested Chinese startups establish joint ventures with overseas counterparts to better cope with the risks brought about by international trade disputes.
"Chinese companies, especially those in the high-tech sector, need to work closely with overseas companies in their going global strategy," said Gong.
Calling the growth "a significant milestone," Yu Gong, founder, director and CEO of iQIYI, credited the company's subscription business model, which features original content and innovative AI technology.

According to Gong, Indonesia is one of the countries that can benefit the most from the Chinese government's Belt and Road Initiative and the funds prepared under its auspices to develop infrastructure.
"The company is interested in bidding the new blocks the government is going to offer in 2018, and we are already in the process of acquiring some from the government," Gong said.
Gong said PetroChina's advantage lies in both its long history and proven technology, including the areas in which CNPC has been a pioneer－enhanced oil recovery and the implementation of various techniques for increasing the amount of crude oil that can be extracted from an oil field.
"We must maintain our production levels and the only way for us to do that is with enhanced oil recovery," Gong said.
"According to Gong, the company is adding technology value to enhanced oil recovery techniques in Indonesia by injecting carbon dioxide to increase oil production and oil recovery, which will help the country increase its crude output from aging fields.
Gong said there has been progress and principles to make conditions better for oil and gas investors in recent years, including the gross-split scheme, in which taxes are waived during the exploration phase for operators until profits reach pre-specified levels.

According to Gong Yan, a professor of Management Practice at the China Europe International Business School in Shanghai, developers in China are exploring business models beyond develop-and-sell, eyeing opportunities emerging among those who have already purchased properties.

Gong said more than 8,000 Hong Kong and Macao-funded legal entities were registered in Guangdong last year, a significant increase of 64.4 percent year-on-year.
And Guangdong's foreign-funded enterprises continue to rank first in the country, added Gong.
Last year, 21,000 new foreign-funded companies were registered, a year-on-year increase of 40.8 percent, Gong added.
Gong Liutang, a professor of applied economics at Peking University's Guanghua School of Management and a member of the 14th National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, the nation's top political advisory body, said the expression of "promoting stability through progress" indicates that policymakers are placing more emphasis on maintaining a reasonable GDP growth rate in 2024.
"Such a stance will help bolster confidence, stabilize employment, mitigate risks and boost people's income growth, which will in turn amplify the role of consumption in driving the economy," said Gong, adding he believes a GDP growth target of about 5 percent would be appropriate for 2024.
Fiscal and monetary policies should be harmonized to achieve that goal, Gong said, stressing that there is an urgent need to reduce interest rate levels as subdued inflation intensifies corporates' real cost to service their debt, which has impeded their investment willingness.

As the nation is deepening its reform and opening-up and promoting high-quality development, Shanghai is creating more landmarks for consumers and improving its business environment to attract more consumers, said Gong Zheng, mayor of Shanghai, in August.
The metropolis will ramp up efforts to this end and build itself into a global consumer destination, Gong said.
Gong Liutang, a member of the 14th National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, the country's top political advisory body, said total fixed-asset investment may slightly speed up in the fourth quarter amid ramped-up infrastructure investment, but property development investment and private investment are likely to continue contracting.
Also, China's exports may still feel some pressure as many overseas central banks may keep interest rates elevated for a longer period of time amid intensified uncertainties over global energy prices, said Gong, who is also a professor of applied economics at Peking University's Guanghua School of Management.
Gong said it is sensible for China to further ease property market administrative restrictions in first-tier cities and reduce benchmark interest rates, which will lessen financing costs for enterprises — a drag on industrial profits and investment returns — and thus boost their willingness to expand investment and employment.
While Shanghai faces multiple challenges at present, the major trend of its high-quality development remains unchanged, Shanghai's Mayor Gong Zheng said over the press conference of the 35th IBLAC on Sunday.
Foreign companies have prospered upon these measures, said Gong.
During the same period, Shanghai inked more than $70 billion worth of project contracts and reached over $1 trillion in trade value, said Gong Zheng, mayor of Shanghai during the second Conference of the Belt and Road Economic Information Partnership and 2023 Shanghai Entrepreneurs Conference for the Belt and Road High-quality Development on Wednesday in Shanghai.
By targeting high standards, sustainability and people's livelihood as the goal, Shanghai will take this opportunity to consolidate the communications and cooperations, better coordinate development and security, steadily expand high-level opening-up, strengthen high-level service as a support, continue to expand high efficiency project cooperation, and promote the high-quality development of the initiative," Gong said.
Efforts will be made to align with the border measures mentioned in the CPTPP and the DEPA so that breakthroughs in tariff structures and market entry policies can be first made in the Shanghai FTZ, Shanghai Mayor Gong Zheng said at the forum.
