Plant-based food company Green Monday launched a new product series called OmniSeafood, which features "fish" and "crab meat" made from soybean and peas, in Shanghai on Aug 23.

Its signature blend of plant-based protein is made from peas, healthy soy, shiitake mushrooms and rice, the firm said.

The quick service restaurant giant is teaming up with US-based consumer staples giant Cargill Inc for the new product, which comes with high-quality protein such as soy, wheat, and special peas to create a taste akin to that of real chicken.

"Concocted by a research team in North America and produced in a factory in Thailand, Omnipork is made from soy, peas, shiitake mushrooms and rice protein, but it tries to mimic the taste, feel, texture and color of real pork.

In the Food and Agricultural Products section of the National Exhibition and Convention Center (Shanghai), the booths of USSEC, US Grains Council, and USA Dry Pea & Lentil Council are concentrated in the same area, displaying various food and agricultural products.

This year is the first time the USA Dry Pea & Lentil Council has participated in the CIIE.
