Beyond Meat Founder and CEO Ethan Brown said in line with the company's goal to increase accessibility to plant-based meat globally, they are going to "make the investment necessary to engage, understand and serve Chinese consumers".
"The global plant-based meat market is estimated to be valued at $12.1 billion in 2019 and is projected to reach $27.9 billion by 2025, an annual growth rate of 15 percent during the forecast period, said research company MarketsandMarkets.
Plant-based meat maker Impossible Foods of the United States traveled to Shanghai last year for the annual high-profile China International Import Expo.

Hong Kong-based plant-based meat substitute company OmniFoods announced two products on Monday, the OmniPork Luncheon and OmniPork Strip, eyeing to tap the growing demand for plant-based meat products in Asia.
The new products are tailor-made for Asian consumers, who crave luncheon meat, with many from Hong Kong considering it their favorite processed meat, said David Yeung, founder of the company.

Five out of eight of the regions with the highest luncheon meat sales last year are located in the Asia-Pacific region, including China, Southeast Asia, Japan, South Korea and India.
Global sales of luncheon meat in 2019 reached 374,000 metric tons, with 146,000 metric tons (39 percent) in the Asia-Pacific region, followed by 119,000 metric tons (32 percent) in North America, and 88,000 metric tons (23 percent) in Europe.
With the market's standard size of 340 grams per can of luncheon meat, around 1.1 billion cans were sold globally, including at least 400 million cans in the Asia-Pacific region alone.
